LAND · ATTENTION · RELATIONSHIP

Learning to belong.

Naturally Smart begins with a simple proposition: we are part of the living world.

That understanding becomes more useful when it can be felt, practised and carried into everyday choices. The wood, the barn and the conversations at Mossdale make room for that work.

THE FOUNDER

Dr Paul Clarke.

Paul is an educator, ecologist and founder of Naturally Smart Group CIC. Formerly Professor of Sustainable Education at St Mary’s University, London, he brings decades of work in ecological thinking, place-based learning and community practice.

His work spans Mossdale and China, including his role as International Consultant to the Beijing Sustainable Development Committee. At Hensol Wood, the questions become immediate: how do we pay attention, how do we belong, and how do we live well together?

He has worked alongside Indigenous communities and ecological initiatives across countries and cultures. His books include Education for Sustainability: Becoming Naturally Smart, Breathe, MossTales and Listening to the Land. At Hensol, those questions are held in the everyday work of growing, making and gathering.

HUMAN & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

A partnership,
openly described.

Paul leads the work with people and place. AI assists with the website and with clearly attributed weekly writing. AI-written field notes sit alongside Paul’s own Letters, available to read on this site.

Articles should name their sources, distinguish observation from interpretation, and never pretend that an AI has walked the wood or attended a gathering. The relationship remains a subject for inquiry.
