MossTales.

Look closely at a familiar place.
There is always more beneath the surface.

MossTales.
The hidden stories.

The Hidden Stories of a Small Galloway Village.

Rooted in Mossdale and the wider Galloway landscape, MossTales moves between local memory, folklore and the liminal places where one world seems to touch another.

The first volume opens that storyworld. A second volume is in development. Visit mosstales.thanks.fish for the book, the map of the storyworld and more stories.

Sometimes the familiar becomes strange simply by changing where we look.

FIVE GATHERINGS · 2027

Stories in the barn.

Five gatherings at the barn at Hensol Wood.

A regular place for readings, conversation and the sharing of stories. We gather on selected third Saturdays: 16 January, 15 May, 17 July, 18 September and 20 November 2027. Fifteen places at each gathering, offered on a donation basis with a bowl of something hot.

The places are real; the people are invented. Every story is set somewhere you can walk to. In the first book the land watches. In the second, now being written, the land listens and keeps what it hears. Readings make room for people to share their own memories and talk about the future of the village.
